I love handprint art! There are so many things one can create with just a child’s handprint. We do a lot of handprint art around here and one of the things I love is going back and looking how their hands have grown. This is an easy and fun art project plus, you can easily tie this into a fishing themed gift for Dad on Father’s Day. Pair this painting with a day “off” to go fishing with the guys, or that new rod & reel he wants. But either way, he’ll love this homemade art project made by the kiddos.
Supplies:
- Canvas board (size depends on how many fish (handprints) you want to make. I used 8 x 13 for one fish.
- Washable tempura paint (get a variety of colors – large bottles just $1.99 at Michael’s!)
- Sponge paint brushes
- Self-stick letters (from scrapbooking supplies)
- Optional: googley eyes for the fish
Instructions:
- Start by painting a wave and water line on the canvas. (Note: the lighter the water, the easier it will be to see the fish)
- Add a sunset of skyline of your choice. Allow painting to dry before continuing.
- Using the sponge brush, paint child’s hand and help him/her carefully place handprint on the canvas, thumb-side up.
- Outline and fill in the fish as desired.
- Draw an eye and lips on the fish the create a hook and line as pictured.
- Using self-stick letters, write out “Hooked on Daddy” or message of your choice.
- Be sure to add your child’s name and date at the bottom!
